Prima S.A. Transport & Trading of Livorno and Lagos-based Red Star Freight announced that they have recently completed a successful project and difficult cargo shipment from Italy to Niger Delta Power Holding in Nigeria.
UK based Rockson Engineering Ltd. was the main contractor company and REPCO SPA Milan was the customer.
“Shipping 750 tonnes of equipment for a gas installation in 76 crates was no mean feat especially to a country like Nigeria,” says Pietro Casagrande, Managing Director of Prima S.A. Transport & Trading.
The cargo involved 8/40’ SOC – shipper’ s own containers of dangerous cargo as well as 8 crates cm. 1390x430x445h Tons. 41 each and other 64 crates with different dimensions and weight for total volume of the shipment comprised 4000 cbm.
The cargo was loaded on board the m/v ACHTERGRACHT, a break bulk vessel and it took 17 days from Livorno Italian port to reach Onne Port where the various consignments were discharged successfully within three days, with 3 port shore cranes of 80 Tons capacity.
“Without expert from Cyril Uchenye Operations Manager at Red Star Freight Limited, Nigeria this would not have been possible,” he adds.
Following the successful unloading operation the appropriate survey was signed by a representative of the consignee. Once customs were cleared at the port and the carrier bill of lading bill was switched for a house bill of lading - a critical process before a letter of credit can be obtained and settlement of payment - the consignment was on its way to its final destination in Niger Delta Region for the final site user.
