Turning On the Power in Algeria

Switzerland-based IFLN Network Member Prima S.A. Transport & Trading has won an order to supply 14 turbo power generators destined for three different power plant sites in the Algerian desert.

Occupying space of 20,000 cubic metres the mammoth door-to-door task involved careful coordination between different sea and overland freight modes as well as the packaging and lifting of a total of 500 different crates and 200 containers.

The shipments commenced in March and are still ongoing.

The individual consignments, some of which had to be sourced from different European countries, were shipped from Genoa to the port of Skikda, which is located near the mouth of the Wadi Safsaf on the Gulf of Stora on Algeria’s northeastern Mediterranean coast.

On transport is being carried out by truck through the desert.

Different types of vessels including different conventional, container and ro-ro ships were used to transport the consignments by sea.  The shipping companies were CNAN-Algerian National Line Algerian National Company of Shipping and Bro Intermed.

The biggest single item measured weighed 110 tonnes weighing 1900x400x520 cm, which had to be lifted by special quay-side crane.

Some of the equipment had to be sourced from Spain, an involved cooperation from fellow IFLN Network Member A. Jentoft.
