Together, IFLN Network Members Highland Forwarding and Dextra Industry & Transport Co. recently completed a successful shipment of air filtration equipment valued at 1 million USD from the US to Thailand in record time.
Beating off stiff competition to win lucrative business against 15 other contenders is a tall order by any standards, especially if the customer is as exacting as GE and the delivery window could not possibly have been any tighter.
There was only one suitable (part charter) break bulk vessel providing a direct service to Laem Chabang.
The order to ship over 1000m3 arrived on a Monday in September and quayside delivery in Houston had to be completed by the next day.
To catch this vessel Highland had to pull out all the stops.
Ten trucks were committed to transporting a wild assortment of different sizes and weights, not to mention obtaining the necessary oversize permits required for overland transport to Houston, the port of disembarkation.
Nineteen different pieces had to be assembled in different size boxes each with different weight, length and width. Six extendable double drop load and three road legal flat beds had to be deployed for this task.
After a grueling 16 hours of work involving shipside delivery the task was finally completed and the ship sent on its two-month journey.
