IFLN member Dextra recently brought to a successful completion a delicate operation involving the shipment of gas treatment modules from a fabrication yard in Thailand to a gas field in the Indian Ocean.

Dubbed Lekas LNG Regasification Melaka, the project was master-minded by engineering company Worley Parson/Ranhill in cooperation with end user Petronas.
The shipment involved a number of different modules, the heaviest being 1000 tons, which had to be brought to the quayside from the fabrication yard then shipped on ballastable self-propelled barge to the gas filed in the Indian ocean.

The operation also involved the engineering, design, supply, as well as installation of a special grillage, hard sea fastening on the vessel, and various other calculations including ballasting for load out.
Two special heavy-lifting beams with a capacity of 2 x 900 tons were specially designed and manufactured under DNV certification for lifting the loads using a floating crane on occasion.
